When you hear a constant ringing in the ear, and it won’t go away, more than likely, you have ear ringing tinnitus. If the sounds you hear last only for a few seconds or minutes, tinnitus is unlikely. Most people will occasionally experience occasional noise in the ear, such as a roaring, buzzing, hissing or tinkling. These ringing noises are commonly found in people older than 40 years old. Men are more prone to have buzzing ears than women. Hearing loss as you age is said to be one of the main causes of this condition. Sometimes it can be heard in both ears and it may be indicative of other inner ear disorders.

It is a vicious cycle because tinnitus causes stress and anxiety and is also worsened by stress and anxiety. Worrying over the tinnitus can cause it to become worse. Lack of sleep due to ringing in the ears leads to fatigue which makes the ear ringing worse. These are just some of the mental and emotional side effects of tinnitus.
